BAG PRODUCTION & SUPPLY CHAIN
Our handbags are crafted with care and precision, using a range of materials to create a beautiful and functional product. In fact, 18-32 components are needed to create a laptop bag, such as leather, lining, and metal wear.When it comes to packaging, we use 10 different components, such as carton, stickers, and envelopes.
As you can see, there are a lot of elements involved in creating our products, and each one must be carefully tracked and assembled to ensure that the final result is of the highest quality.
We believe that a transparent and sustainable supply chain is not just the right thing to do, but it is also essential for our business and the communities we serve.
We are committed to maintain transparency and accountability throughout the process and are working to share more details going forward.
OUR SUPPLY CHAIN IN THREE LEVELS:
Level 1: Production of the business bag/assembly of the packaging
Level 2: Production of components
Level 3: Production of raw materials.
OUR CREDO
We manufacture locally in Europe to reduce our carbon footprint and support small craft businesses. The majority of our raw materials, 98%, come from Europe, and we are working on sourcing the remaining 2% from the region as well.
The only exception is our dust bags, which are produced in India to support the Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, which helps women and girls who face cultural, gender biased and economic barriers to gain financial independence. For more information, click here.
Despite our determination to source materials from Europe, there are situations where this is simply not possible. The reality is that we live in a globalized market where suppliers are constantly seeking ways to optimize prices to remain competitive. This often leads to the production of raw materials (Level 3) moving to countries outside of Europe, where labor and material costs may be lower. While we strive to maintain a responsible and local supply chain, we also have to recognize the limitations of the market. Additionally, it is currently the case that we cannot determine the country of origin for certain raw materials. For example, the origin of the adhesive used in our stickers is sometimes unclear as we currently do not have access to this information from our supplier.
BUSINESS BAG PRODUCTION
Despite the additional production costs, we choose to produce our business bags in Italy. It is known for its rich history in leather crafting and bag-making dating back centuries. Our business bags are 100% made in Italy, and we source our Level 2 components exclusively from Italy, ensuring that we maintain the same level of quality throughout the production process.
However, when it comes to Level 3 and the sourcing of raw materials such as cotton or metal, some of our Level 2 suppliers import these materials from outside of Europe as dictated by the market to remain competitive.
PACKAGING PRODUCTION
The assemply of our packaging is done by us in Germany.
For the production of our packaging, we partner with Level 2 manufacturers in:
- Germany: Parcel stickers, postcards, care guide, welcome letter, tags
- Spain: Envelopes
- USA: Inbox stickers
- India: Dust bags (sourced from Princess Diya Kumari Foundation, which helps women and girls who face cultural, gender biased and economic barriers to gain financial independence. For more information click here)
When it comes to Level 3 suppliers of raw materials, it really gets difficult to track if possible at all.
We know that the raw materials from our producer in Germany mainly come from Germany or the Netherlands. The paper for our envelopes from Spain comes from China, the paper for our stickers from the USA comes from the Netherlands and the cotton for our dust bags is produced in India itself. Unfortunately, we are not yet able to track precisely the origin of all required raw materials such as glue.
